About Us

Mission:

Our mission is to address the needs and professional development of Postdoctoral Fellows training at the NYU Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. Our Program serves to nurture all facets of the postdoctoral training and career development for and research training. It seeks to encourage interaction among postdoctoral appointees on an academic, cultural and social level, while supporting the Postdoctoral Program Office and the departments it supports.  The Postdoc Program also serves to officiate and represent the postdoctoral population and their interests within the NYU School of Medicine community

Program Goals:

• To administer, monitor and support NYU School of Medicine’s Postdoctoral Policies
• To assist postdoctoral fellows in their training and career development by providing professional development, mentoring and career services and programs.
• To serve as a central resource unit for all postdoctoral issues (i.e. postdoc policy issues, health insurance, benefits)

Services for Postdocs:

• New Postdoc Orientation
• Career and professional developmental programs necessary to increase competitiveness in the job market
• Individual career counseling
• Confidential crisis intervention and advising
• Individual consultations on mentoring relationships, grievance procedures, Postdoc rights, and policy issues
• Dedicated website, monthly newsletter which provides updated resources on postdoctoral policies, funding opportunities, career services and much more. 

Through our career development programs and activities on an academic, cultural and social level we seek to broaden fellows’ scientific background and extend their potential for performing high quality research in a nurturing environment.

We are also aware that the postdoctoral years represent an important transitional period in the life of early career scientists, and as such endeavors to assist postdoctoral fellows successfully make the transition to independent careers in science and other professions.
