A coworking laboratory for NYC biotech entrepreneurs and an initiative of the NYC Economic Development Corporation provides early stage ventures access to affordable dedicated wet-lab space, shared use of modern laboratory equipment, and access to resources at nearby partner academic laboratories for services ranging from advanced imaging to animal research facilities.
Since opening past November Hb has accepted 19 companies as members, including three NYU teams. This April they will be accepting two more teams for anticipated openings in May or later 2014. Applications will be reviewed in order of receipt. (Apply Online or email Matt Owens firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.)
Benefits available to member companies include:
1) Brand new and beautifully designed lab and workspace -- affordable wet lab facilities right in Manhattan near express trains. See Hb's website for a virtual tour of the space, new collection of press announcements (from NYT, Wall Street Journal, NPR, and other sources), and other details about the new facility.
2) Access to top equipment -- members have turnkey access to modern laboratory equipment so they can worry about product development from day one rather than outfitting a lab. For instance Olympus has provided a top-of-the-line epifluorescence microscope.
3) Legal support -- member companies receive exclusive one-on-one consultations from corporate partner WilmerHale, one of the top biotech law firms in the country.
4) Guidance from industry experts and investors -- strategic and tactical feedback is provided by the Harlem Biospace advisory board (from Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer, GlaxioSmithKline, Orbimed, New Leaf Ventures, Bank of America, Columbia University and NYU) and one-on-one mentors, spanning the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries.
5) Tailored classes and trainings -- Experienced members of the biotech community share their knowledge though lectures, office hours, and workshops. Our member companies have exclusive access to some of the top speakers for Q&A.
