The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) has established six Core Competencies that offers guidance for postdocs to proactively manage their individual career and professional development. Using these core competencies, we can help you to take charge of your own professional career development. All of our career developmental activities are aligned with the NPA’s six Core Competencies and seek to provide the necessary training in the skills and performance required to achieve career success. We offer many different courses on each of the NYU flower petals, but there's one course that is the most important:  IDP or Individual Development Plan course.

Here's a brief description of this course:

The Individual Devlopment Plan (IDP) course is intended for 2nd or 3rd year graduate students pursuing a PhD degree, and for postdoctoral scholars with some time left in their tenure.  Participants will have the opportunity to evaulte their own values and interests as they relate to their professional careers.  Then they will be introduced to the four career tracks NYU-STEP has identified for PhDs, For Profit Industry, Non-profit and Government, Communications and Academia.  Trainees will be asked to identify skill areas they would like to develop in the NYU-STEP program.  Click here for more info and the syllabus.
