2nd Annual Sackler Research Day

The research community of the NYULMC School of Medicine came together on May 7, 2010 for the 2nd Annual Sackler Institute Research Day, which highlights the work being done by young scientists across our institution. This year, there were seventy posters presented by graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and MD Honors Program students. Presenters spanned 25 different departments covering basic science, clinical, and translational studies, and attracted over 150 attendees.

Awards for best abstracts were given in the predoctoral and postdoctoral categories. This year, prizes and awards were given to:

Karsten Pilones, Postdoc – Best Abstract, Postdoc Category
Giselle Abreu, Graduate Student – Best Abstract, Predoc Category
Karen Murphy, Postdoc – 2nd Best Abstract, Postdoc Category
Mary Ann Pohl, Graduate Student – 2nd Best Abstract, Predoc Category
Marcus Lambert, Graduate Student - 3rd Best Abstract, Predoc Category
Katey Rayner, Postdoc - 3rd Best Abstract, Postdoc Category

The day was concluded with five short talks by presenters selected as the best submissions overall. They were:

Davor Frleta – Postdoc
Meredith Wetterau – Postdoc

Pablo Peixoto – Postdoc

Shali Zhang – Honors MD

James Crawford – Honors MD

Each of these presenters gave outstanding presentations that were a fitting end to a wonderful celebration of the research being done by our trainees. The success of this event is a tribute to the collaborative and supportive environment that makes NYULMC such a vibrant institution. It is clear that with such an outstanding cadre of young scientists and capable mentors that we will continue our growth as a world-class research institute. The organizers wishes to thank everyone who participated and hope that even more of our community will attend next year.
